Easter is a good occasion to gift something really special and inspirational. But where did the event of Easter come from?

Easter gets its name from Eostre, the great mother goddess of the Saxons of Northern Europe. And, in many cultures, eggs are central to the event of Easter. Eggs used to be associated with spring as a symbol of germination and a new life.

So the custom of giving eggs as presents at Easter time, was incorporated into the Christian event as a way to symbolise Christ’s resurrection. Eggs, often forbidden during Lent, were brought to the dinner tables at the occasion of Easter (dyed red) to symbolise the joy of this celebration.

The 1,000-year-old pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is known as the Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago - in Spanish). Some 200,000 pilgrims travel to the city each year from all over the world to find inspiration and/or deeper spiritual understanding. Many carry with them a scallop shell or St James's Cross - believed to promote strength and hope.

The Way of St. James criss-crosses Western Europe, arriving at Santiago through Northern Spain. It is generally regarded as a journey of the body, mind and spirit. Modern travellers choose to do the Camino for personal, spiritual and/or religious reasons - or simply to take time out from their busy, modern lives. For many, the walk is to find inspiration - improving their outlook on life, bringing them into closer contact with nature and expanding their cultural horizons through contact with other travellers. Everyone experiences the journey in a different way.

Show a friend or loved-one that you care about them - and their wellbeing, and that you are thinking of them, with this meaningful charm bracelet. Comes gift-wrapped, like all our presents - and we can print a personal message on your behalf.
