Like other good luck symbols, the Indalo is used as a lucky charm, amulet or talisman on a multidue of jewellery pieces . . and especially in Spain – being part of the history and culture of Almería, Andalucía. Indalo pendants of gold, silver and non-precious metals abound along the Spanish ‘levante’ coastline, along with other items of jewellery and ceramics, etc featuring this so-called good luck symbol.

In the old Iberian language, Indal Eccius (a phrase commonly believed to be the origin of the word ‘ Indalo ‘ – and related to Saint Indalecio, a 1st Centruy Saint sent to evangalise Roman Iberia) means ‘ Messenger of the Gods ‘ and the little Indalo charm is considered a guardian angel (a bit like a St. Christopher or St James Cross worn by many on the Camino de Santiago) throughout much of eastern Mediterranean Spain – offering protection from harm (and strangely, from flood as well, in this the dryest part of Europe).

Not only is the Indalo a symbol of good luck and protection, but it is also believed to represent Man’s ethereal connection with the spirits and the universe:

Overall, the Indalo is a great symbol of inspiration – a symbol with a story – that makes a great piece of inspirational jewellery – jewellery with REAL meaning.

A special treasure, symbolic of luck and protection - ideal for "new beginnings"

The shiny gold pendant on this necklace is in the form of an Indalo, recognised in Andalucía, southern Spain, as a symbol of protection and good fortune. Even today, in the small village pueblos that lie hidden behind the giant sierras that roll down to the Mediterranean shores, the Indalo is known for its good luck qualities.

Inspire your friends to be lucky and positive by sending this symbolic piece of jewellery. It makes an ideal gift for a special event or occasion and shows someone you really care.

Dimensions: The larger pendant measures 20mm long (23mm including the hanging bail) by 18mm wide; The smaller pendant measures 14mm long (20mm including the hanging bail) by 14mm wide: Please choose in Options Box. The curved Indalo Man figure has a zirconite stone head that really sparkles in the light. It hangs on a fine 16" 14ct gold-filled trace chain - chapado de oro. An 18" chain is also available: Please choose in Options Box.

Is Gold-Filled the same as Gold-Plated / Vermeil?
No, it is much better: Gold-Filled is a layer of solid gold, pressure-bonded into another metal (in our case 925 sterling silver). Whereas Gold-Plating is a very thin layer of gold that is 'plated' onto the surface of a variety of other metals. (Vermeil just means that the plated item is made of silver: Nothing more; it is still just Gold-Plated.) So, Gold-Filled has a much higher value than simple Gold-Plating or Vermeil because it contains a much greater quantity of gold; and is of higher quality because of the way that gold is included: Once termed “Rolled-Gold” it has a long history - although the modern process wasn't patented until Victorian times in England. It is much more precious and tarnish-resistant than Gold-Plated / Vermeil: It does not rub off or flake or change colour. No es baño de oro, sino chapado oro: El chapado que llevan las piezas es de 2,5 micras, lo que equivale a un chapado oro de 23 kilates.

Everyone needs a guiding spirit to protect them through some of life's challenges. This little Spanish charm with its pretty, eye-catching sparkle could be just the thing. Comes gift-wrapped, like all our presents (with an information card about the Indalo) - and we can print a personal message on your behalf.
